A moment before Silence

I painted a close-up of a figure’s face and upper head, tilted slightly upward and to the side, as if lost in deep emotion. Their eyes are closed, and their lips are gently parted, giving the impression of someone caught in a moment of quiet pain, longing, or exhaustion. One hand is pressed against their cheek, fingers splayed in a tender, almost self-comforting gesture.

The figure has elongated pointed ears, hinting that they may not be human, perhaps an elf or other fantasy being. Their hair is wild and flowing, with loose strands framing their face. The color palette is dramatic and unconventional. The skin is painted in deep bluish gray tones, contrasted with bold streaks of vibrant red orange light that cut sharply across the contours of the face and hand. White highlights outline certain features, giving the image an almost graphic novel style edge.

The brushwork is loose and expressive, with soft textured strokes blending into more defined lines. It feels both painterly and raw, as if the artist wanted to capture not only the appearance but the emotional weight of the moment. The background is left mostly white, drawing all focus to the figure’s expression and the intense play of color and light.

I wanted it to feel like looking at a frozen heartbeat, the pause between breath and tears.
